Reading

Absolutely nothing. The book I was reading I just couldn’t get into. I need a recommendation. HELP!

Loving

N, obviously. He’s the official parallel parker of our household and every time he parks my car for me, I laugh a little at our modern, urban romance. Because really, is there anything more romantic that a guy who searches the city for a parking spot? I think not.

Listening

To the song “Rhapsody in Blue”. I heard it on the United Airlines commercial and knew I’d heard it before but I haven’t figured out where. I’ve read that it is supposed to be about New York and I just know that it was in something I’ve seen – a movie, perhaps? Anyway, I love it.

Thinking

About whether I’m going to like Interstellar when we see it today. I’ve heard it actually has a lot of quantum physics and can be very sciency and hard to understand and follow the story because of this. I’m no dummy but I’m a little worried it will go over my head.

Impressing

N with my brunch menu yesterday. I took challah bread and dipped it in hollandaise sauce and cooked it like I’d made french toast. Then I put a fried egg on top and added some shredded cheese. It’s a knock off of my favorite item from our local brunch spot but I thought I’d give it a try myself. Big round of applause for me because it was heaven.

Wishing

For some blog inspiration. I’m struggling right now. I feel like I have nothing else to say. My inspiration definitely comes in spurts so I’m trying to wait it out instead of just throwing in the towel.

Wearing

A tunic, leggings, and boots! My fall and winter go-to. I bought the tunic through Groopdealz. I’d never bought anything from them but I’m very impressed with the quality and service.

Wanting

Someone to invent some type of device that will help the parents of golden retrievers. Our house is covered. Absolutely covered. We bought a Dyson and while it works, it’s so full of dog hair so fast that it can’t do it’s job. The top of our duvet looks like we shaved Archie and left it there. And my love of black clothing is becoming love/hate, as I’m constantly rolling myself to try to look mildly presentable. It’s worth it for this though…

Needing

To get on my game with cooking at home. The ease of ordering takeout in the city has seduced us and has led to much higher food budgets and hardly any home cooking. But seriously, 369 places will deliver to our house via Grubhub. 369! There’s so much to try!

Admitting

That on Tuesday I went for a 1.5 mile jog and was so sore the next day, I could barely walk. I also couldn’t tell anyone why I was limping because the fact that 1.5 miles of running could make me that sore is pathetic.

Feeling

Good. Really good. I’m really happy with where my life is. I feel happy and ridiculously lucky.

YOU MIGHT LIKE:
  • Yay so glad city life is treating you well! And 1.5 miles, that is amazing. So don’t underplay it!

Reading recs – The Light Between Oceans. You’ll be angry and you’ll be heartbroken. I think you’ll like it 🙂

    Sx

    • Ahh. That’s how I felt about the last book I read – Me Before You by Jojo Meyers. I think I need something happy in between but I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks!

  • Running is hard- don’t beat yourself up! Beautiful pics!

  • One of the first adjustments I had to make when moving to the city was to redo my food budget. I spent SO MUCH on takeout and restaurants during those first few months. Part of it is definitely having a tiny kitchen and having to haul groceries around on public transit but really, it’s the convenience. Like you said, there are so many choices!

I compromised by raising my take out budget a little bit and then making up the difference in groceries and a few other places. Sticking to it is still hard through 🙂

    • The grocery shopping is totally the worst. We made the terrible mistake of going to wholefoods on a sunday and it was hands down one of the most miserable experiences of my life. The worst.

We’ve spent a lot less money just wasting time and money on weekends at places like Target, Best Buy, and Ulta. Since they aren’t easily accessible, we go to pricey brunches and then find other (free) things to do.

  • Maybe it was a hilly run! I always get sore if I try a new route with hills my legs are not used to.

    • I wish that was the reason…

  • Kelley

The Girl You Left Behind by JoJo Moyes…one of the best books I’ve read lately. I just picked up her book Me Before You (for $2 at Unclaimed Baggage!!) and am really looking forward to reading it.

    • I just finished Me Before You. It was really good and now I’m curious about her other books. Thanks for the recommendation!

  • I feel ya on the blog front. I haven’t had a whole lot of inspiration either… other than NaNoWriMo which I’m sure people are tired of reading about. Hopefully we’ll both get our inspiration back!

And what type of book are you looking for?

    • I just read a pretty sad book so I’m looking for something happy. Kind of in the vein of The Rosie Project.

  • Jodi

I’m the mother of a golden and I will never figure out how to get rid of the dog hair. It’s EVERYWHERE. But I love dogs too much to complain.

    • The WORST is when I put Argan Oil on my face at night and then somehow dog hair floating in the air or on our pillows or something sticks to my face. I cannot stand the feeling. Totally gives me the heebie jeebies. Still worth it for our sweet Archie though.

  • That brunch looks amazing.

Some days my legs are just not in it. Doesn’t matter the mileage, and other days, it’s like I could run forever. 1.5 miles is super chill on a day I’m not feeling it. Better than 0.0, that’s for sure.

    • I want so badly to become a runner but have just never been able to get past the 3 mile mark of running comfortably. After about 3 miles it feels like complete misery.

  • I love these kinds of posts! Glad to hear that you’re in a happy place and enjoying Philly 🙂

    Liefs,
    Yara

  • Don’t throw in the towel! Your blog is my favorite to follow. I do know how that goes though, because my blog has had a long streak of no updating.

For books, I died laughing at Sloane Crosley’s I Was Told There’d Be Cake and Jenny Lawson’s Let’s Pretend This Never Happened.

    • Thank you for your kind words and for your book recommendations! I’ve heard good things about Let’s Pretend This Never Happened. I definitely need something funny and uplifting after the last book I read (a real tear-jerker).

  • That bread looks yummy!

    • It was super good! I’d never bought challah bread before but it’s served a lot at the brunch spots near our house. Yum.

  • Rebecca

Rhapsody in Blue is used in the beginning of the Woody Allen film Manhattan, so maybe you’re thinking of that! United has been using the song in their ads for many years now. 🙂

    • Maybe I just watch too much TV and have seen the commercials too many times. I haven’t seen Manhattan. Something about the tune makes me happy though so I’ve been playing it in my office during the day.

  • JC

I haven’t ran in weeks so 1.5 miles would probably do that to me also. I also have the same problem with our dog. Everything is covered! Also I’m working on releasing a (free) ecookbook this week or next week. Just a little push to cook more at home!

    • I need the push to cook more at home but grocery shopping in the city is just the worst.

  • I just used Groopdealz for the first time this weekend 🙂 Also,,over 300 grub hub locations? I would never cook either! We have like 10 near us haha!

    • Well thanks for justifying my takeout habits! haha. There is just too much to try! Plus, I love ALL kinds of food. There is nothing I don’t like. It’s a problem.

  • We actually went to a movie last night for my dad’s birthday. We were going to see Interstellar, but ended up seeing Nightcrawlers instead. It was amazing!! A perfect guy and girl movie (if you like suspense). Interstellar is still on my list, but I was really pleasantly surprised with the one we saw!

    • I’ll have to watch the trailer for Nightcrawlers. I know Jake Gylanhaal is in it but I don’t know much else.

  • Have you read ‘The Shadow of the Wind’? (http://amzn.to/10MpchA) It’s the best book I’ve read recently. It’s not new, so I don’t know how I hadn’t heard of it before! Also, I’m glad you’re feeling so happy – that’s awesome and refreshing 🙂

    • I actually had heard of it and just re-read the summary on Amazon. Thanks for the recommendation! It looks really good.

  • Carleigh

Fall is my favorite time to re-read the Harry Potter series! I’m also reading Killing Kennedy and its really interesting so far.

    • I was actually seriously considering picking up one of the Harry Potter books. Sometimes I read them out of order, just which ever one I’m in the mood for.

  • Emily

Have you ever given “the furminator” a try? It seems CRAZY expensive for a grooming tool but it works AMAZING! Like it will scare you the amount of hair it pulls off of him. We finally bit the bullet and splurged for our huge long haired black cat and have never looked back. Seriously! Highly reccomend!!

    • We actually have one. We use it but I’m scared to use it too much because it actually cuts the hair at a point (maybe if you do it too much?). Our breeder discouraged us from using it but maybe we need to give it another try for the sake of our house. Archie has such long feathers and he gets so many compliments on them that I’m scared of anything that cuts his fur.

  • Danielle

That recipe looks delicious! Could you post your Hollandaise recipe?!

Also, I just started reading the new Jodi Picoult book”Leaving Time” and I’m really enjoying it- I like her books a lot.

Also in regards to the furminator and golden retrievers- it does help! I have it for Harper, my golden, but I rarely remember/feel like doing it… so that’s a bit of a problem! lol

    • My Hollandaise sauce recipe is a fabulous one that can be found in your grocery store spice aisle in a green packet. Lol. It’s definitely not homemade. But it is delicious.

I’ve never read a Jodi Picoult book and I feel like people LOVE them. I should give her a try.

  • I can’t run…………..just saying
It sucks when you can’t get into a book

    • I always try to become a runner and I run once and get so sore that I don’t run again for at least a week. It’s a sad cycle.

  • Jae

Have you read Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl? If so and you loved it, then you’ll probably feel the same way with Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple. I would have recommended Me Before You, but I see that you’ve already read it. 🙂

  • Hi there, its pleasant piece of writing on the topic
of media print, we all know media is a enormous source of data.

  • SUCH CUTE PUPPY FEET. I’m so jealous of your sweet pup!
And if you’re looking for a book recommendation, you should try Stay by Allie Larkin. 🙂

  • I don’t know if you’re a fan of Jodi Picoult or not, but I just finished her new book, Leaving Time. I loved it – couldn’t put it down!
