5 Books About Blogging that You Should be Reading

Sometimes I pretend to be one of those bloggers who doesn’t take it all that seriously. I try not to. But I love blogging. And so, when I’m not blogging I love to read about blogging. I’m constantly striving to be better.

At any given time you can find about 20 samples of blogging or writing related books on my Kindle. Today I wanted to share with you a few that I’ve actually purchased and loved.

5 books about blogging that you should be reading| eastandblog.com
1. Blog, Inc.: Blogging for Passion, Profit, and to Create Community by Joy Deangdeelert Cho

If you’ve been blogging for any amount of time, skip the first chapter. If you’re like me, you didn’t even think about starting a blog and until you started one. Blogs aren’t the kind of thing you read up on before you jump right in.

The book is interspersed with interviews with the biggest bloggers about their own experiences blogging. It was super interesting to read what Love Taza and Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere had to say about how they got started and the logistics of managing their blogs today.

The most helpful chapter is probably Chapter 4: Blogging Community Etiquette. This isn’t just basic stuff like, don’t leave a comment like “follow me and I’ll follow you back” with your link (don’t do it, just don’t). It goes further and covers blog conferences, social media, and contributing to the community as a whole.

2. How to Write Great Blog Posts that Engage Readers by Steve Scott

This book is all about the logistics of a great blog post. It’s not just what you write about, it’s how it is written. I loved the chapter called “12 Elements of Engaging Blog Posts.”The author walks you through how to hook the reader, ensure the post flows, and that the formatting is pleasing to readers. A must read.

3. Sticky Readers: How to Attract a Loyal Blog Audience by Writing More Better by Margaret Andrews

This book was my favorite to read because it is written in a casual style and feels like you’re reading a long but super helpful blog post. Some of the advice is common sense if you’ve been blogging for some time but she does a good job of making you aware of the little things you are doing that could be a turn off to readers. My favorite tip? Sell it and Don’t Apologize. Not everyone will like you, and that’s a-okay.

4. 101 Blogging Tips: How to Create a Blog That People Will Find, Read, and Share by Tristan Higbee

The first few tips you read from this book, you’ll probably think, “um, duh,” and then you’ll worry you wasted your money to read stuff like “respond to blog comments.” But honestly, some of the tips sound like common sense but when he explains why you should or shouldn’t do something, it really clicks. Once you read this, you’ll find that you notice silly things that you were doing wrong that some of the biggest bloggers are doing wrong too.

5. 100 Shareable Blog Post Ideas: Easy to Write, Easy to Share by Sean Platt

This book is a quick read. The book is divided up into post ideas in a common theme such as “10 Posts that Will Grab Major Attention” and “16 Blog Post Ideas the Other Guys Aren’t Doing.” Keep a notepad handy because when you’re done with this book, you’ll have tons of ideas.

  • Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to
her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I
    had to tell someone!
