12 Simple Wedding Invitations That You (And Your Fiancé) Will Love

One issue I’m continuously finding with wedding planning is that everything is so stinking girly. I love girly. I really do. Bring on the pink and florals and watercolors. I love it. But I’m not getting married. WE are getting married. And the other half of that WE does not love the girly stuff.

Many of the wedding invitation options I’ve found have been overwhelmingly girly. It’s beautiful paper but it doesn’t necessarily reflect both partners. As a result, my fiancé and I have been looking at simple, modern, beautiful designs. Simple doesn’t have to mean boring!

Which one is your favorite? Are you a fan of simple designs?

YOU MIGHT LIKE:
  • I love the simplicity and understated elegance of all of these! I actually designed our wedding invites myself – using sites like minted for a little inspiration. They turned out great, and were super cost-effective! In all honesty, Derek didn’t really care about things like invitations or programs, but then again I’m not very “girly” myself, and I think the invites did a good job of representing both of us!

    • I thought about doing that actually! Do you mind if I ask where you got them printed? Most of the places I found to get them printed made them about the same price as Minted or Wedding Paper Divas.

  • These are great! Ours were pretty simple like this. We also did reply postcards to cut down on postage. Who needs 20 different cards in an invite?

    • I actually think we are going to have people RSVP online. I can only think of one or two people who might be a little confused by an online RSVP and we’ll just give them the option to call. So when we send our invitations, it will just be the invitation, and that’s it.

  • Love the first one, as well as the last two!

    • See now I’m conflicted! A lot of people loved the first invitation and the last.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE. I look back on our invitations and wish we would have chosen something different, there are just SO MANY great ones out there!

    • Jae

      I feel the same way!

  • Our invites and all our paper goods were designed by Jeremy’s sister. But I was just so overwhelmed when I was looking at invitations. I am so glad that she designed everything for us (thanks to Pinterest), because I don’t know what we would have chosen if she didn’t!

I love all of these though. Simple and classic.

    • There are SO many options, it is definitely overwhelming. A lot of these are so simple that it’s like, a minor font difference and that’s it. Not to mention, N and I discovered that we have really different taste in fonts. It’s a weird thing but every time I showed him a scripty font, he hated it.

  • Kelley

i had an artist friend paint an 8 1/2 by 11ish size version of our invitations and designed them myself using a tree, a bird cage, birds, and hydrangeas which was our theme and the background was the lace from my dress. She did hand calligraphy for the words and made smaller prints of the painting to use for the invitations. I loved it because it was totally personal and we got a nice keepsake out of it (the original painting), but if we had not gone this route, I would have totally gone the more simplistic route like the choices you have up there. I like the first, second and last options.

    • That sounds absolutely beautiful! I wish I had someone who could hand make something like that for us. It makes it so special. Because I don’t, we’re definitely going with super simple.

  • I love these, especially the “Whitney” design. We went with this design from Up Up Creative because we’re huge nerds and also wanted something simple and fun. Picking invites was so fun, but you’re right, everything is SO girly sometimes!

    • I knew this post would result in me finding another designer/site that I loved. How cute is Up Up Creative? Thanks for sharing! I love all of their “we eloped” options.

  • Moe

These are really modern! I really love how Emma, Whitney, and The Square Types look! It’s interesting too because they all have the simple and minimal design to them!

    • The more designs I showed to my fiance, the more I realized that we’d never agree on a design unless we went super super simple. I really like the timeless simplicity of these.

  • These are all so simple and beautiful. I have even thought about creating my own. With all of the resources out there (lots of them free) it would be so easy to create something unique yet simple. Thanks for sharing!

    • I actually created an invitation that I loved in PicMonkey. I did a little research though and discovered that getting them printed would not be much cheaper than if I just ordered a design from Minted or something.

  • Yes yes yes I am so with you

    • Thanks, Jo-Anne! Sticking with simple is never a bad idea.

  • My husband and I had the same battle when we were planning our wedding. I hate seeing wedding designs that clearly show how the groom had absolutely no say, so I tried to include him as much as possible and choose things that I knew he would like. With our invitations, we could never quite agree on any that we saw, so I ended up making ours from scratch. They weren’t girly at all and we both loved the way they turned out!

  • I like the last one the best!

  • Gallery hoping and city life are my favorites, I can’t wait to see which one you chose!

    Sparkles and Shoes

  • These are really great. That’s one of the bigger issues I’ve had with wedding planning as well. Everything is so focused on the floral, sparkles, purples, and pinks and I kept trying to find something sleek and simple. This is a great mix of different simple yet lovely invitations.

  • I like the minimalistic ones more than the ones with lots of colour and swag. I think wedding is such a delicate matter, I would always go with the simple ones, because there’s enough of glitter and colour during the party or on the plates at the table 🙂
